Creative Courses

Improve your skills or try something new!

The Creative Fenland project is part of ‘Know Your Neighbourhood Fund’ which has been funded by the Government to reduce loneliness and increase volunteering. In joining the project, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire several times. This should only take 5 minutes each time and is important to help inform decision makers that projects like ours are vital and deserve further funding.

Thanks to our current funding we can provide your place free of charge if you are on a low income or receive benefits. To find out about the cost of the course and entry requirements please visit our ‘About’ page by clicking here. Returning Learners may apply only to courses they have not enrolled on before.

If you have any questions about the courses, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

  • Little Book of Stitches | Wisbech

7 week course starting week commencing 3 June - 15 July (no half term beak)

There is nothing quite like hand embroidery. Some people use it to ‘paint’ their canvas or fabric to create the most amazing pictures; whether they are beautiful landscapes, still life or abstract, they are always pieces of textile art. Embroidery stitches and techniques are as old as time itself and I am happy to be able to share some of them with you. You will be able to share this ancient craft to keep this artform alive and kicking! We will be making a little book of stitches, learning two or three stitches each week, and including them in the book. Some pages of your book will be abstract, while others will form a picture or a theme.

Suitable for beginners or those new and for those with some experience in the art form who want to progress

    Tuesdays 10am - 1pm

Cyanotype is an environmentally friendly photographic process almost 200 years old. It was first used to create botanical prints and later on was adopted by architects as a simple way of copying designs. In this course, you will learn all the steps required to create cyanotype prints from the preparation of the chemistry to the creation of images using mainly pressed flowers, leaves and objects. You will learn how to apply your prints onto various surfaces such as different types of paper, fabric and wood; using both a UV lamp and sunlight (weather permitting) to fixate the print. You will also have a chance to experiment with wet cyanotype techniques using turmeric, white vinegar and soap suds. At the end of the course you should leave with a range of objects depicting your own cyanotypes.
